Under the direction of the Supervisor, Claims, Republic Western Insurance of claims arising from physical damages to vehicles, property of customers and third parties (property damage claims, small bodily injury claims and limited personal injury protection). Obtain necessary authorization from the Claims Supervisor to pay claims in excess of authority. Perform a variety of duties which require in-depth knowledge of risks under management, product offered and insurance investigation techniques working within the claims office. Must maintain integrity of proprietary information.

• Receive correspondence or phone call alleging some type of loss or claim from insured and/or claimant. Review existing pertinent correspondence or talk to party on the phone. Send letters and necessary forms to the insured and/or claimant requesting pertinent facts or information. Determine if an independent adjuster is required and make proper arrangements by contacting local adjusting bureau in that area by letter or telephone.
• Gather facts pertinent to the liability of the claim by written correspondence, telephone and services of an independent adjuster, if necessary.
• Evaluate data supplied by police reports, repair statements, contracts, witness statements, claim settlements, etc. to determine if liability exists.
• Prepare formal denial letters by dictation or verbally by telephone, with prior supervisor approval, if there is no coverage or liability.
• Evaluate the amount of the claim according to the facts of the accident and investigation in which there is coverage or liability.
• Settle at a fair price, after proper investigation, claims within the adjuster’s authority limits without sacrificing quality of work to meet established standards of quantity.
• Must become licensed in all states handled, within six months of employment, which require an adjuster’s license.
• Maintain a number of pending claims within acceptable limits and control expenses through proper work organization.
• Utilize the adjuster’s experience, knowledge and judgement to provide the insured and/or claimant with the best possible service, thereby avoiding complaints.
• Refer questions on claims exceeding individual authorization to the Supervisor.
• Keep abreast of industry trends and new practices and methods by formal schooling and reviewing technical publications.
• Take recorded statements as required.
• Must read and follow fair claims practices of states for which they are accountable.
• Must meet or exceed company and department performance goals.

Republic Western Insurance Company is looking for a Claims Service Representative in our Claims Reporting Unit. The function of the Claims Reporting Unit is to set up new claims for U-Haul Storage, U-Haul Equipment, Commercial Policy Holders and Managing General Agencies. In addition, the CRU provides other support functions for the Republic Western’s Field Claims Offices, the Commercial Claims Unit, the subrogation Unit and the Equipment Damage Unit. Duties include answering inbound calls and entering information into a PC based program.

This is a fast paced environment; hours vary from 5:00am to 6:00pm. Candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends.
