Position: Senior Systems Engineer - Virtualization and Storage

U-Haul is seeking a talented Engineer to work with our substantial virtualization and infrastructure technology footprint.

The Candidate should have prior background working in VMware vSAN Storage, vSphere NSX, and NetApp technologies, and should have a solid high-level understanding of modern underlying IT principles (Systems, Network, Software, SaaS, Virtualization, Containers, CI/CD).

Virtualization and Storage Engineers will work as peers on the System Engineering team to ensure Resource Availability, Optimize and Tune Performance, and Implement Best Practice. Proficiency with the tools of the trade will be essential to success however more importantly the Candidate will need to be adaptable to a dynamic technology suite, willing to learn new tools and skills while bringing their varied experience to round-out the team’s collective knowledge.

Automation and Orchestration will be essential to success, the Candidate should be familiar with the most reliable and efficient methods to perform their tasks while constantly working to eliminate repetitive manual tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Apply senior level expertise with knowledge of industry trends and ability to apply concepts in support of business requirements in a fast-paced DevOps culture.

· Implement and manage VMware based virtualization technology on bare-metal server hardware and understanding of Hybrid Cloud solutions.

· Design, Implement and support full stack of virtualization and automation solutions such as, vCenter, vSAN, NSX/NSX-T, SDDC, vRA, vRO, vROPs, Hyper Convergence, and Nutanix.

· Implement and manage public cloud compute and storage systems.

· Develop and document best practices in developing and deploying VMware solutions.

· Develop standard operating procedures, KB Articles and work instructions for operational teams.

· Support of Cisco Networking solutions which support the VMWare and Nutanix environments.

· Implement and manage systems used to automate the operation and deployment.

· Provide input to security policies. Proactively monitor for patch compliance and analyze patches for compatibility and approve implementation/changes.

· Work with security compliance teams, implement and maintain secure platforms to adhere to HIPAA, SOX and PCI-DSS requirements. Implement and maintain monitoring systems and tools which are required for HIPAA, SOX and PCI-DSS.

· Respond to issues identified via vulnerability scans, network security scans and PEN tests.

· Maintain and operate a vulnerability management program as it pertains to the virtual environments.

· Build, maintain and operate solutions and policies required for business continuity and disaster recovery.

· Lead in development of automated cloud solutions, automated cloud deployment and provisioning systems, cloud management and monitoring systems, new cloud technologies integration, and solutions necessary to create elasticity, flexibility and agility of hosting solutions for critical business applications.

· Identify solutions to isolate, resolve, and prevent the complex problems across multiple teams/technologies.

· Lead troubleshooting efforts when escalated for major incidents or ongoing problems occur within the data center as virtualization and platform SME, working with multiple team’s technologies within a complex system.

· Independently review and verify changes/solutions of high complexity and ensure governance and change management practices are followed.

· Implement solutions and related projects in hosting environment to meet development pipeline, business needs and customer requirements.

· Maintain strong working relationships with operations peers, development teams and hardware/software vendors.

· Aid in definition of and maintains organizational SLO, SLA, and business continuity programs.

· Mentor and provide training to other team members within the engineering and operational teams.

· Manage Exposure of Sensitive Data (Encryption at Rest, Masking).

· Coordinate with Operations to plan maintenance, upgrades etc.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (will consider technical training/job experience equivalents).

· Prefer 5+ years of experience that includes, VM administration, experience and proficiency in managing and maintaining a medium/large environment (at least 1000+ Servers) and 2+ years of advanced scripting experience.

· Experience with ONTAP, Microsoft Windows operating systems, Linux (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).

· Experience with VMware vCenter Server, vSphere Standard/Enterprise Plus/ Platinum, Unity-Sync, VMWare ESX/ESXi 6.7, and 7.0, vSAN, Site Recovery Manager, VMware Site Recovery, Virtual Volumes, NSX/NSX-T, SDDC, VRA, vRops.

· Experience with network storage technologies (NAS, iSCSI, FC, FCOE, NVMeOF).

· Experience with Active Directory and other authentication methods utilizing password-based, multi-factor, certificate-based, and token based authentication methods.

· Display competence in Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Availability Orchestrator, Veeam ONE, Veeam Management Pack (MP), Veeam Agents.

· Requires scripting knowledge such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, and RestAPI.

· Experience using Source Control (Git, SVN, TFVC).

· CCNA certification or equivalent knowledge of the Networking Stack (VLAN, subnets, ports, DNS, firewalls, routing and switching).

· Fluent English, and high oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to interact with various levels of professionals.

· Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

· Ability to act independently to drive IT goals and changes.

· Advanced troubleshooting methodology, identifying, researching, and resolving technical problems.

· Be able to judge priorities and adjust their work accordingly.

· Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention.

Experience with these technologies a plus:

· Apache Kafka

· Elastic Suite (ELK, Elastic Search, Logstash, Kibana)

· Experience with Ansible, Ansible Tower, and AWX

· Public Cloud and Hybrid Cloud solutions

· Familiarity with Application Monitoring (Dynatrace, Telegraf, LogBeat, Kibana, Grafana)

· Familiarity with .Net / .Net Core application development

· IIS (Internet Information Service)

· Kubernetes / Database in Containers

· Linux Server Administration

· NGINX

· Nutanix

· PowerShell and Windows Server Automation / Orchestration concepts

· Prometheus

· Redis

· Security Best Practices

· FreeNAS, unRaid, Synology

· Experience supporting multiple data centers

· Experience working in ITIL based process model (Incident, Change and Request Fulfillment)
